Captain Shawn's Fishing Report

Happy Sunday everyone! Good week of fishing except for the crazy weather at the beginning of the week but we needed it and it really cooled the water off and we really needed that! By Wed. the water was in the mid 70's and the fish loved it! This is going to be a great fall with the amount of fish I'm seeing and catching now plus we are covered up with bait and that always makes it better! This past week we had snook, trout, a few reds, snapper, Spanish mackerel, and a few other fish mixed in. This is a great time to hit the water too as there is very low boat traffic and fishing pressure. Keep in mind that fall is right around the corner so if you were planning to get out this fall give me a call or email and we will get you booked and ready to go! Hope you all have a great week coming up! See you soon!

"Hey guys the water is warming up, the tarpon are rolling, the snook are eating and Summer is on its way and the fish can prove it with these extremely high tides. Well fall is coming on strong and the water is cooling off with our days getting shorter and night temps. getting lower and the fish can prove it. With these negative low tides I am finding most of the inshore fish along deep edges near flats that are close by. Remember that fish don't want to move no more than they have to between tides and even though they may push up on the flats on the higher tides it doesn't take them long to fall off the edges of these same flats. I am finding nice reds, trout, and snook in all the same places and if it is a sandy bottom there have been a lot of flounder caught the last few weeks as well. Spanish mackerel are also around drop offs or where the water is funneled down between bars where there is more water movement. There are several big schools of red fish around Sarasota Bay as well just off the Bulkhead bars outside the mouth of the Manatee River. Grouper are still going on strong in about 45' of water when it isn't too windy to get out there. The king fish are out about 10 miles and anywhere you are catching nice gags it will pay off to put a couple of flat lines out behind the boat with a live bait on but be ready to grab your rod when it starts screaming drag out. Also, I have found that there are so many pin fish around that if you know you are on reds and cant get them to bite try using a half dollar size pin fish. It is also a good idea to use a sinker rig to keep them on the bottom and from swimming away from the reds when they can. The fishing is good and should only get better as we get further into fall."
